The Northern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis) used in our furniture is a creamy white color that weathers gracefully to a silvery gray when left out in the sun. All cedar items may be used indoors or out and may be painted or stained as desired.
Cedar is naturally resistant to decay and insect damage. Because of this superior resistance, cedar is frequently used for fencing and siding on homes and it is the ideal choice for outdoor furniture and garden items.
Cedar is a very light wood (19 pounds per cubic foot) and is easy to work with. It will not shrink or warp as do many other woods commonly used for furniture and garden products. Cedar is uncommonly smooth surfaced making it more attractive than other woods.

picture on the right. Checking happens as
wood releases moisture and normally occurs across or through the annual growth
rings. It is the usual result of wood seasoning. Checking does not affect the
structural performance or integrity of the wood.
